Official: 12 Iran-Made Pharmaceutical Products, 50 Medical Equipment Registered in Kenya
“The Iranian start-ups and knowledge-based companies have exported $2 billion last year, and 12 pharmaceutical products and 50 medical equipment of the Iranian companies have been registered in Kenya,” Mohammad Sadeq Khayyatian said.
The 24th edition of the Medicine and Medical Equipment Exhibition (MEDEXPO AFRICA 2024) and the third edition of the Laboratory Equipment Exhibition (AFRILAB 2024) started in Nairobi, Kenya, on April 17.
In the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Khayyatian made a speech, emphasizing the need to develop mutual cooperation between the two countries.
It was the third time that the Iranian companies participated in the exhibition with the support of the Innovation and Prosperity Fund.
“With the guidance and cooperation of the Food and Drug Organization of Kenya, today 12 pharmaceutical products and over 50 medical equipment of the Iranian companies have been registered in Kenya,” Khayyatian noted.
“12 Iranian pharmaceutical raw materials (API) manufacturing companies have succeeded in obtaining a GMP certificate from the Food and Drug Administration of Kenya, and among these, 2 of our plants have succeeded in exporting their products to Kenya and we will also witness the exports of 10 other companies,” he added, explaining that the raw materials will be transformed into the final products in the Kenyan plants

Kenya is a promising market for medical devices and has been ranked as one of the fastest growing markets in the sub-Saharan Africa region according to Fitch and World Bank reports. The medical device sector is heavily reliant on imports with limited domestic production.
