AI Helps Iranian Researchers to Optimize Agricultural Water Consumption

TEHRAN (ANA)- A knowledge-based company in Iran succeeded in production of a smart irrigation system by using artificial intelligence (AI) that optimizes water consumption in agriculture by over 45%.

“Our activities are focused on designing and producing smart irrigation systems and providing services in the field of smart environment,” Zahra Abou Shahab, the managing director of the knowledge-based company stationed at the Science and Technology Park of Islamic Azad University, told ANA on the sidelines of Iran's 26th International Exhibition of Electronics, Computers, and e-Commerce (ELECOMP 2023) in Tehran.

“Our company started working in 2014 and we tried to offer the best product in the field of water consumption management to the society by using different sciences and new technologies like electronics, mechatronics and artificial intelligence,” she added.

Abou Shahab pointed to the application of the company's knowledge-based products, and explained, “Since the major part of water consumption happens in the agricultural sector, the most important application of our product is the management of agricultural water consumption and it can optimize it more than 45%.”

“This product provides the user, farmer or well owner with the possibility to manage the consumption of energy and water carriers without being present and with minimal risk, thereby increasing the productivity of their production by 25 percent will be witnessed,” she underlined.

Earlier this year, the Iran-made antibacterial nanogeomembranes were also presented to the market to enable the easy storage of agricultural water in the rainy season and its use in the low rainfall seasons in drip and traditional irrigation systems.

The product was manufactured by a knowledge-based Iranian company, supported by the Iranian Vice-Presidency for Science, Technology and Knowledge-Based Economy, by using silver nanoparticles.

It has various applications, including, creating fish and aquatic breeding ponds, creating ponds and reservoirs for raising poultry, watershed projects, dams and water containment and covering water transfer channels. Other uses of this product include storage of agricultural water in the rainy season and its use in the low water season in drip and traditional irrigation systems, creating a water park for water sports and recreation like swimming, sailing, water skiing and controlling the industrial effluents and sewage in order to prevent contamination of underground aquifers and soil.

The product also enjoys very high resistance to tearing, extraordinary resistance to infiltration and leakage of water, steam, moisture, is a serious obstacle to the penetration of ground salinity into the water tank, enjoys very high flexibility to cover angles, corners, arches and uneven natural surfaces at the site of implementation, has no rotting and fragility due to high thermal resistance and frost resistance while maintaining quality, and enjoys resistance to fire and self-extinguishing and complete resistance in acidic and alkaline environments.
