TEHRAN (ANA)- Iranian researchers at Amirkabir University of Technology succeeded in designing small, compact, multi-band and reconfigurable antennas for cellphones.

“In this project, we put on agenda designing a small and compact antenna for cellphones to cover most of the frequency bands of the fourth generation wireless communication, specially the low frequency bands of 700, 850 and 900 MHz,” said Afshin Shahqoli, a graduate of Amirkabir University of Technology and the executor of the project.

Noting that in this project, two antennas that can be used in cellphones were designed, he said that the first antenna is based on a monopole antenna that covers 10 frequency bands of the fourth generation, namely 700, 850, 900, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2100, 2300, 2500 and 2600 MHz.

Shahqoli said that the second antenna covers 7 frequency bands of 700, 850, 900, 1700, 1800, 1900 and 2100 MHz, adding, “Due to the inverse relationship between the resonance frequency and the dimensions of the antenna, and the 700 MHz band, which is the hardest frequency band available in wireless communication, these antennas completely cover the 700 MHz frequency band.”

He stated that the antennas can be used in communication industry in the field of wireless communication, specially cellphones and tablets, to cover most frequency bands of LTE, LTE-A and a number of intermediate frequency bands of the fifth generation.

Earlier this year, the head of Iran’s Research Institute for Information and Communication Technology announced designing and building of telecommunications payloads in the research institute.

Mohammad Razavizadeh emphasized that the research institute cooperates with the Iranian Space Agency as a research partner in the field of designing and construction of satellites.

“We cooperate with the Space Agency in projects related to making telecommunication payloads,” he added.

Razavizadeh explained that satellite telecommunication has different parts of mechanics and control, etc., saying that the payload that is supposed to be carried by the satellite is designed and manufactured in the research institute.
